Open Windows

God,

there are too many walls,

 too many locked doors,

too many glass ceilings.

Help me, God,

to move the blind and let the light in.

I want to see what you see.

to open the window and let the fresh air in.

I want to breathe in your grace

God,

give me the courage to walk with the marginalized,

the strength to overcome my bias and prejudice,

and the patience to deal with those

who forsake our brothers and sisters.

Help me, God,

to persevere when obstacles block me,

to persist when complications confuse me,

to refocus when distractions sidetrack me

to find a way.

God,

give me the equanimity to press on

when I’m told, ‘no’

and the prudence to not be over-confident

when I’m told ‘yes’.

Help me, God,

to always be willing to listen

to hear what you hear.

to talk the talk and walk the walk

to be a power for good

God,

I am grateful for your grace,

appreciate your blessings

and celebrate our harmony.

Help me, God,

to be in perfect union,

not one, not two.

          To be kind and gentle

                    resting assured with your love

In the movie "Harvey", Elwood P Dowd, played by Jimmy Stewart, explains coping with the world this way: "Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, 'In this world, Elwood, you must be' - she always called me Elwood - 'In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant.' Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me." Well, for years I was smart, oh so very smart, I too recommend pleasant - Trust the harmony
