Insurgent

With mouth and eyes agape,
I am a change agent
but not for changes sake.

I stand for attention,
and will take the hard right;
rarely the easy left.
I won’t belittle change
with something less than change.

With back straight and chest high,
I can’t just do something.
I stand there with a “Yes”;
and make a commitment
to birthing an idea.

Shoulders square and hips set
I defy the hard facts.
It makes me be better.
It makes change be honest;
a truth with tenderness

With my arms extended,
regardless of hard times,
I live and die with change.
It gives courage, courage.
It makes patience, patient.

I smile and then I hug
for better and for worse.
I’m the change that changes.for
